“Even when we find ourselves in the darkest valley, God still walks alongside us, carrying us through the darkness.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – February 16, 2025
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. Isaiah 61:1
For those who have lost a loved one, we know what it’s like to walk through the valley of the shadow of death. Likely we can all agree it is the darkest valley we’ve ever been in. Yet Psalm 23:4 says, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” The words refer to protection and comfort. Even when we find ourselves in the darkest valley, God still walks alongside us, carrying us through the darkness . . . even in the broken parts of our story.
Death and grief can grab us like nothing else in life does. They change the innermost parts of our being and make us question everything around us—everything we thought to be true. Trusting God, especially during the most challenging times, is not only the hardest thing to do but the most essential. As we continue to walk what may feel like a desert road, if we give the journey to God, we will become stronger. We can place the broken parts of our hearts into the hands of the One who made us and trust that He will make all things new. Somehow, He takes all that has been broken and shifts it into something beautiful and good. Even in the broken parts, He is in our story.
“You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you” (Psalm 32:7-8).
Heavenly Father, you alone can heal every part of my brokenness. Especially during the broken parts of my story, I look to You to make me whole again.
