Give Thanks – Having a Heart of Gratitude

Written by Pat Elsberry

A heart of gratitude is not just a source of strength and comfort in times of difficulty or uncertainty, but a powerful reminder of the capacity for hope and renewal.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – November 24, 2024

I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the LORD Most High. Psalm 7:17

Giving thanks to God is a deeply personal and integral part of our lives. It’s a way to express gratitude for the blessings we receive. Whether through prayer, meditation, or acts of service, this personal expression of gratitude is an extremely meaningful and fulfilling practice.

Reflecting on what we are thankful for not only helps us cultivate a more positive and optimistic outlook, but also fosters a sense of humility and interconnectedness with others. By acknowledging the abundance of good in our lives, we can better appreciate the world around us and the people we share it with.

Admittedly, it’s not always easy to be thankful for everything, but the scripture tells us to be thankful in everything. “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.Studies have shown that practicing thankfulness and having a heart of gratitude is really good for us. When we actively show gratitude, it is strongly linked to greater levels of personal happiness, lower levels of stress, better sleep and even a better ability to deal with life’s adversities that come our way.

As believers, giving thanks to God is integral to our beliefs. We view it as a daily way to honor and connect with Jesus and seek his guidance and support. We may also see it as a way to align ourselves with the values of compassion, love, and generosity – all characteristics of our Lord and Savior.

A heart of gratitude is not just a source of strength and comfort in times of difficulty or uncertainty, but a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the capacity for hope and renewal, even in the face of adversity.

“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds” (Psalm 9:1).
