“Wherever you are, there God is.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – October 30, 2022
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Have you ever heard someone say, “Why do bad things happen to good people?” or “He has gotten more than his fair share of trouble” or “Why do some people seem to have easy and charmed lives and others just struggle from the start?”
If we answer these questions from the human perspective of what seems fair or assume that God isn’t very kind or loving to some, and he seems to favor others more, we miss the beauty of God’s grace.
When I think about grace, I usually think of the kind of grace that has given me eternal life and saved me from sin. But here I’m referring to the grace that enables me—and you—to go through all the difficulties we experience in life. Not some of the difficulties. Not just a few of them. But all of them. God has graced us to endure and come out in victory on the other side.
My wise son-in-law once said, “Wherever you are, there God is.” So true. That means that He has graced each of us to prosper in those things that to others may seem impossible.
My friend Maxine was a shining light to others, not just before she was diagnosed with cancer, but especially after. And, when the hospice nurse came to see her, she was especially glorious. She said to the hospice nurse with a big smile, “I’m a very strong person.” The nurse replied with a grin, “I can see that.”
When Max was just days away from going Home, she wrapped her arms around me, prayed over me and said that when I got to heaven that she would have a handsome man on her arm for me. I was in my early forties and still single. We both giggled.
Maxine endured pain and suffering with joy because she had been graced for it. While some who watched her journey may have thought, “I’m not sure I could go through that the way she has” the truth is that we can get through anything we experience because God graces each person for every personal trial and every difficult season.
I may need to endure one type of trial; you may need to endure another. But wherever any of us are, there God is, gracing us for what we experience now, and what we will experience in the future.
Ah! The beauty of grace!
Did you need to read this today? Be encouraged! God is with you, and He has graced you to victoriously endure your trials, troubles, and tears. You are deeply loved!
Prayer
Lord, how I praise you that I have exactly what I need to go through every difficulty in life. You have given me not anything less than exactly what I need. How I thank you and praise you! Amen!
