“Don’t fight. Let go. He will fight for you.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – September 24, 2023
For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory. Deuteronomy 20:4
On March 30, 2023 I hit my right elbow on the towel rack in the bathroom and received a fracture.
On July 12, I had a biopsy. This revealed a metastatic tumor the size of a grape inside my ulna (the long bone in my right arm.)
On July 14, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.
On July 26, my husband and I visited an oncologist here in the U.S. who gave us no solutions or hope for healing.
On July 27, we filled out paperwork to check into Oasis of Hope hospital, a world-renowned cancer hospital in Mexico for ground-breaking treatment.
On July 28, we boarded a flight to Mexico and that same afternoon, one of the hospital drivers picked us up at the airport curb for the short, 30-minute drive to the hospital.
Our driver, Daniel, was a Christ follower. “Are you nervous?” he asked.
“About going into the hospital?” I responded.
“Yes,” he said. “I sense that you’re nervous.”
“Yes. I’m nervous. I haven’t ever been in the hospital before.”
His response ministered to my heart because then he said something powerful: “Don’t fight. Let go. He, God, will fight for you.”
This spoke to me because some people were telling me to fight. Others were telling me to rest. Daniel’s words ministered to me, and I thought, “The Lord wants me to know I am deeply loved and that He is able. I can’t do this on my own. I can’t heal myself. But Jesus can heal me. Oh! How I want Him to be glorified!”
During my entire 3-week stay at Oasis of Hope, this theme of God fighting for me kept coming up over and over—and one of those times was in the wee hours of the morning. I couldn’t sleep. So I picked up my phone and a video popped up on my screen. This video was special and got me really excited because it was about Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocyte cancer treatment (TILs) which is part of the treatment they used for me at the hospital.
Killer lymphocytes are a part of the white blood cell family and their job in the immune system is to seek out and destroy disease (including cancer) in the body. When a surgeon at Oasis of Hope removed a tumor from my right breast, the lab pathologists then removed the lymphocytes from the tumor, and multiplied them in the lab by the millions and then injected them back into me in the form of cancer vaccine. Because these killer lymphocytes are already programmed to kill my specific type of cancer, when injected, they immediately find the same type of cancer in my body and inject protein toxins into the cancer cells to destroy them.
When I watched a video of these Killer Lymphocytes doing what God has designed them to do, to attack and kill cancer, I grabbed my plush dog, Frederick, and made him dance on my chest. “Yes!” I told Frederick, “These lymphocytes are proof that God wants us to live! They are proof that He is fighting for me, even way down at the cellular level! Yes! Just like Daniel the driver said, Jesus is fighting for me!”
He’s going to give me the victory!
Jesus is also fighting for you in ways you cannot see, in ways you cannot imagine or comprehend. He is fighting for you because He loves you madly and He is guarding you fiercely.
“The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be still” (Exodus 14:14).
Prayer
Lord, how I praise you that you love me so much that you are fighting for me, even down at the cellular level, even in ways that I cannot see. You are amazing! There is no one like you, God!
Application
Praise Him for what you learned today.
