“Holy Spirit-led prayers on your behalf are God’s gift for you to still pray when you don’t know what to pray.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – February 23, 2024
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26-27
Prayer can be perplexing at times. My emotions can run the gamut, contributing to my confusion. Hurt diminishes my energy and silences my speech. Anger causes me to roar like a lion. Worry makes me chatter away with agitated anxiety. False guilt feeds my shame, while real guilt causes me to cry out in confession. Fortunately, out of my weakness, the strength of the Holy Spirit’s prayers gives my heart hope to rest in His righteous intercession. My Advocate gains alignment with the will of God, without me having to strive in my stressful state, but instead, wait on love. Wounds bathed in the ointment of prayer enjoy divine care and heaven’s healing. My grief given over to the Spirit’s prayers invites me to experience visceral care and keen awareness of God. I have a very present help in my time of need as the sweet Holy Spirit is always accessible to me.
Do you find yourself not knowing what to pray? That’s ok. In fact, what better way to find clarity than to lean into the Spirit to intercede for you? Relational conflict can be an opportunity to press into your relationship with the Lord to gain a deeper humility to better know how to love and forgive. The Holy Spirit can bring healing to another hurting heart beyond your wisdom and understanding. Physical ailments may help you grow a generous empathy that aligns with God’s will as you seek to serve with compassionate care. Holy Spirit-led prayers engage your caregiver, Jesus Christ, to bear your burdens and care for your soul. Press beyond distress to God’s care. Your Spirit-led prayers on your behalf are your lifeline to know the Lord’s will. Rest in Him.
The Holy Spirit may be influencing you in ways you could be unaware of. Circumstances are out of your control as one door of opportunity closes and another you haven’t even fathomed as an option opens wide. A friend or family member is led by the Lord to offer assistance. Your pride resists, but your humble heart reminds you of the need to learn how to receive. Allowing others to give allows them to be blessed beyond measure. The Spirit is always at work around you, but you must first slow down, focus your spiritual eyes to see what creative things God is doing, and give Him the glory in the process! You need to confront someone about a hard issue, but you dread what might be an outburst of emotion. But you trust the Spirit is paving the way as your soft, non-defensive approach diffuses differences and builds a bridge to the heart. The Spirit’s intercession, followed by your joyful, loving obedience, is a recipe for God to get the glory!
Remember how Jesus Christ describes the Holy Spirit’s role in your life. He guides, speaks, listens, reveals, and glorifies (John 16:13-14). The Holy Spirit also teaches and reminds you (John 14:26). He testifies (John 15:24-26), and He convicts (John 16:8). Your divine intercessor hears your hurting heart and offers comfort, all the while bringing clarifying truth to your confused thinking, convicting of sin and glorifying God in the process. What a gift! Ignore the Spirit’s prayers on your behalf and remain in the darkness of ignorant shame, or enthusiastically embrace His intercessions and be drawn into an intimate encounter with God’s love! Holy Spirit-led prayers on your behalf are God’s gift for you to still pray when you don’t know what to pray.
