“I will remain confident in the One who has promised to walk alongside me in the valley of the shadow of death.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – March 30, 2025
The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8, NLT
A few weeks ago, I told my husband that for the first time in 5 years I would not be publishing my weekly blog post. After sitting down at the computer multiple times over a few days I simply didn’t seem to have any words to share. When I first started writing I committed to myself that I wouldn’t simply blog just for the sake of writing – it needed to be something worthwhile to help others just like me walking through the grief journey. Shortly after falling asleep, I woke up a short time later with the chorus of a song on my heart and the gentle whisper from our Heavenly Father telling me – You were made for more. Along with that He reminded me of an excerpt from my book, Beautifully Broken Finding Hope During Loss that I believe I’m supposed to share with you today.
Some say that time heals all wounds, but I don’t believe it. What I do believe is when we walk in faith, God continually heals our broken heart. I believe a scar begins to develop over the open wound in our heart and as time goes by the pain may begin to ease. The scar may soften and lighten up, but it will always remain as evidence of what was. We will always know there is a piece of us missing.
The piece in our hearts which held all the love, hopes and dreams for our loved one can never be filled by anyone or anything else. No amount of time can change that. Yet I will remain confident in the One who has promised to walk alongside me in the valley of the shadow of death. “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, because you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4, NLT)
When the tremors reoccur and the walls threaten to cave in, I remember that same one also leads me beside the quiet waters and restores my soul. “He leads me beside quiet waters and refreshes my soul” (Psalm 23:2-3). This is where my hope during loss comes from. I lean into the only thing I know that will save me from crumbling. His name is Jesus, and my hope will remain in Him.
Friends, whatever situation you find yourself in today, if you woke up feeling down and defeated, I pray these words will give you hope and a reassurance that we are all made for more. Please take a moment to listen to the words of this beautiful song, Made for More by Jenn Johnson and Josh Baldwin.
“The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring” (Isaiah 58:11).
Prayer
Thank you, Father, for being El Roi, the One who sees me. Thank you for restoring my soul and showing me that I am never far from your sight and you see all things. We can be grateful that you always have a good plan in mind for our lives even when we don’t feel it.
Application
Be encouraged today. Take a moment to lean into the Holy Spirit and let him minister your heart. Ask Him to lead you on the path he wants you to be on as you too, are made for more.
