Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – July 6, 2020
But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31, NLT
Our family of 21 strong (11 grands!) just spent a week together along the Toccoa River just outside of Blue Ridge, Georgia. Because of a friend’s generosity, we all spread out between a large river home, a guest house and a smaller cabin two doors down. Each morning a symphony of birds brought to mind my heavenly Father’s care, comfort and creativity! The white water rippled at the misty low tide and the afternoon’s murky high tide surged water released by the dam up stream. Deer swimming to shore at dusk, trout lured in by fly fishing artists and laughing as family reminded me of how much God values His creation—especially His children in Christ.
You are the most valuable of God’s creation. He who sees the sparrow’s needs, sees your needs. He who makes the river flow around the next bend leads your life through twists and turns. He who shines heat and rains down droplets on trees and vegetation, constantly radiates love on your soul and waters your heart with grace. He who nourishes the animals with daily provision gives daily bread to care for your body. Fear and love for your Creator keeps you from fear of His creation. He who loves you unconditionally equips and empowers you to love unconditionally.
“What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet” (Psalm 8:4-6).
Your heavenly Father cares for you, so you can care for His creation. You are so valuable to Him that He sent His son to save your soul and give you abundant life. If fear of financial provision weighs on you, remember the One who made the gold in the ground, and review His faithfulness over your lifetime. If fear of disease haunts you, take hold of the Great Physician—Jesus and His prescription of peace and healing. Fear can be a lack of faith or a deficiency of love. Embolden your faith by elevating the eyes of your soul to Christ—trust Him—and receive His perfect love.
Celebrate God’s estimation of your greatness by praising Him for His greatness. His valuation standard for you is based on who you are in Christ. You are a beloved child of God, accepted in the Beloved—Jesus Christ. Obey Him, not to gain His approval, but as an expression of your love for the Lord. Your heavenly Father’s intimate care knows the number of your hairs and the extent of your cares. Cast your concerns on the One who is the most concerned for you. You are God’s most valued possession. Celebrate His ownership of your life. Fear Him, and no one else.
“He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession” (James 1:18).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I praise you for making me your prized possession over all your creation, in Jesus’ name, amen.
