“Everything you do for Christ is recorded and He doesn’t cast a blind eye to it. He will reward you for your faithfulness.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – January 19, 2021
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58
I imagine there are days in all of our lives when we wonder if the works we do really matter. We wonder if God notices the small things, the sacrificial things, and the ways that we serve Him that are difficult. Here’s some great news: God is paying attention, and He is taking note, not to count your good works unto salvation, because good works can in no way save anyone, but He is paying attention, taking note and will not forget to thank and reward you when you see Him in heaven.
Hebrews 6:10 says:
“For God, the Faithful One, is not unfair. How can he forget the beautiful work you have done for Him? He remembers the love you demonstrate as you continually serve his beloved ones for the glory of his name.”
Everything you do for Christ is recorded and He doesn’t cast a blind eye to it. He will reward you for it.
This is such great news, because this means we aren’t taking a meaningless trip around the sun. We aren’t filling up space and time and days until we finally get home. What we do here, right now, affects what happens there. The reality of our earthly lives is undeniably and irrevocably connected to the heartbeat of heaven.
When it’s a struggle to serve, love, and care, He notices.
When you stay up all night with a sick child, sick friend, or sick mate, He notices.
When you wrestle in prayer and anguish over the lost souls in your family, He notices.
When you give out of empty pockets, He notices.
When you support those who are leading the way to make a difference in our world, He notices.
He notices, and He will reward you. Your efforts are not in vain and they delight the Lord’s heart.
“Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you” (1 Samuel 12:24).
Prayer
Lord, thank you that you notice all that I do for you. And thank you that in your gracious kindness you will reward me and all who serve you. Our efforts are never in vain. Amen.
Application
Consider how you can serve God today and delight His heart.
