Seasons of Waiting

Written by Pat Elsberry

Waiting teaches us patience, deepens our faith, and draws us closer to God as we learn to trust in His character rather than our circumstances. It can be a time of growth and refinement.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – February 9, 2025

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:14

Waiting for God to answer prayers can be a profoundly challenging experience, especially when those prayers have been lifted up for a long time. Whether we’re praying for healing, guidance, or a breakthrough in a specific situation, the waiting period can feel like an emotional and spiritual wilderness. Yet, Scripture encourages us to trust God’s timing and purpose, even when the answers seem delayed.

One of the hardest things I’ve found about waiting is the uncertainty. We wonder if God hears us, if our prayers matter, or if we’re asking for something that will never come to pass. But in these moments, it’s essential to remember that God’s silence doesn’t mean absence. He is always at work behind the scenes, preparing things in ways we may not understand. Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. God sees the bigger picture, and His timing is perfect.

Waiting teaches us patience, deepens our faith, and draws us closer to God as we learn to trust His character rather than our circumstances. It can be a time of growth and refinement. Sometimes, God delays His answers because He prepares us for something greater or shapes our hearts to align more closely with His will. As we wait, we can take comfort in knowing that God is more interested in who we are becoming than simply giving us what we want.

In these seasons of waiting, it’s helpful to stay steadfast in prayer, seek God, and remember His promises. Romans 12:12 encourages us to “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” While we wait, we can ask God for the strength to endure, the faith to keep believing, and the peace that surpasses all understanding.

Ultimately, God’s answers to our prayers are always in our best interest, whether they come quickly or after a long waiting period. Trusting in His goodness and faithfulness allows us to remain hopeful, even when the wait feels endless.

“The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him” (Lamentations 3:25, ESV).

Prayer

Lord, help me to remain patient during this season of waiting. Help me to remember that you have my ultimate best in mind even if I can’t see it right now.

Application

If you’re in a season of waiting right now, consider laying whatever your prayer request is at the feet of Jesus. Trust Him in the timing knowing He directs your steps.
