Seeking Peace

Written by Pat Elsberry

If you’re burdened by something today, I encourage you to turn it all over to Jesus – the One who can calm any storm.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – August 18, 2024

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all. 2 Thessalonians 3:16

The older I get, the more peace I seek in my life and surroundings. Unless we live on an island by ourselves, we live in a world that doesn’t always accommodate us. Life happens. Health concerns crop up, and we may even find ourselves or our loved ones fighting a life-threatening disease. We may be overlooked for a long-desired and hard-earned promotion in the professional world. Many things in life can upend our peace, and we find ourselves tossing and turning in the middle of the night, wondering what we will do.

There is one source who is always available, unwavering, and will never lead us astray or fail us. His name is Jesus, and he loves you more than anything else. He longs for us to live in peace, even during the hard times in life. Worship music is one of the main things that reels me back when I feel my emotions getting out of control. When I can’t find a peaceful place in my heart, I run to the Father by listening to worship songs. Recently, around 3:00 a.m., when my eyes were barely open, I heard these words:

“You are peace within disaster. You are calm inside the storm. When I needed rescue, Jesus, you came through. Oh, in my hardest season, your promise held true.”

These are lyrics to the song Rescue by Jordan St. Cyr. I hadn’t heard this song in a long time, and now the Holy Spirit reminded me of where my peace comes from. I may not know what heaviness your heart holds on to today, but I do know where our peace comes from. If you’re burdened by something today, I encourage you to turn it all over to Jesus. The One who can calm any storm and rescue you from the worst thing that could happen in your life. God is no respecter of persons, which means he has no favorites. What he has done for me, he can and will do for you, transforming your life in ways you never thought possible.

“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful (Colossians 3:15).

Prayer

Father, I will forever be grateful for your goodness, grace, and peace. During the hardest season you were there to lift me up and were truly peace within disaster. There is no one like you Jesus.

Application

Friend, if you are feeling anxious, stressed or just out of sorts, I encourage you to take a moment, play this song and let the words wash over you.
