Surrendering It All to Christ

Written by Pat Elsberry

We all yearn to grow and flourish, but are we truly surrendering ourselves to the Father and seeking His will in our lives?”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – July 28, 2024

But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore, do not be anxious, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:30-33

During the early days of my professional career, I was eager to take on more responsibilities. I yearned to enhance my job and become the leader I aspired to be. However, as often happens, God’s timing isn’t our timing. My plans didn’t unfold as I expected, and certainly not on my schedule. Yet, in this seemingly chaotic time, I found empowerment in surrendering to God’s plan. When I finally relinquished control and entrusted it all to Him, He began to shape me into the woman and leader He envisioned.

In her book Fight to Flourish, Jennie Lusko discusses the concept of growing where God has planted you. Like a tiny seed buried deep in the dark, moist soil, eventually, it begins to reach for the sun. This analogy resonates in many aspects of life, including the journey through grief. It’s a reminder that even in the darkest times, we can find comfort and guidance in our faith.

There are instances when we all find ourselves in unfulfilled positions in our careers. Or, we might be navigating through a challenging phase in our relationships. Perhaps, the Holy Spirit has been nudging you to make a significant change, but your aversion to change has led you to ignore His promptings. We all yearn to grow and flourish, but are we truly surrendering ourselves to the Father and seeking His will in our lives?

Even in the midst of our darkest moments, it’s there, underneath it all, where we are cultivating deep roots. These roots, nurtured by our experiences, will one day bear fruit. We may not see it now, but one day, we will wake up and realize how far we have come. We will grow and flourish once again, transformed by the challenges we’ve faced.

For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house. They flourish in the courts of our God. Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green. They will declare, “The Lord is just! He is my rock! There is no evil in him!” (Psalm 92:13-15)

Prayer

Father, I’m thankful for all the lessons you have taught me, especially those taught during seasons of growth. Only you Lord can make us flourish in the dark.

Application

If this is a season of growth for you, take a moment to thank God for the dark, wet soil he has planted you in knowing you will soon reap His best for your life.
