The God of Every Little Thing

Written by Pat Elsberry

He hears every word uttered. Nothing – NOT ONE THING – doesn’t concern him about you, his precious child.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – September 29, 2024

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7, NLT

The quote, “Prayer should be your first response, not your last resort,” is attributed to Lisa Bevere. Lisa has said that people can receive radical answers when they pray radical prayers. She suggests praying about anything you need, such as finances, career, relationships, or favor. Lisa also believes that God is the answer, and that people should seek God in prayer. Let this be a reassurance that no prayer is too small or too big, and that God, who is always ready to listen and respond, is the answer to all our needs.

While I agree, many people think we should only bring the “big ticket” prayer requests to God. I even had a friend tell me that God didn’t care about all the little things she was going through. She wasn’t fighting a significant disease, her marriage was intact, although not thriving, and her children were okay. She said, “God is too busy for me to bother him with my trivial problems.”

Friends, remember that God’s love for you is so deep that he even knows the number of hairs on your head (Luke 12:7). He is the God of every little thing and he longs for you to bring him your every need, worry, or concern. If it concerns you, it matters to Him. You are not just a number in a crowd, but a cherished child of God, and he is always ready to listen.

While driving down the road, we can just begin talking with God and sharing our hearts with him. He hears every word uttered. Nothing – NOT ONE THING – doesn’t concern him about you, his precious child. But in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6).

My son thinks it’s funny when I thank God for finding me a parking space close to the supermarket’s front door when it’s raining. When it happens, I thank Jesus for it as I pull in. I love the look on his face! I know this is a trivial request, not a life-or-death situation, but I love how my Heavenly Father cares about even the small things.

No prayer is too insignificant. I regularly ask God to help me find things I may have misplaced. When I take a moment to ask, I can’t tell you how many times He has led me right to where it was. I think he has helped me find so many inconsequential items to keep showing me how much he cares about every detail of my life. And you know what else? I think He does it with a big smile every time, delighting in the opportunity to show his love for us!

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened” (Matthew 7:7-8).

Prayer

Father, thank you for loving me so much that whatever concerns me, big or small, is important to you. I’m in awe of the depth of your love for your children and grateful for your loving care.

Application

If you’ve been holding back a prayer request from God because you think He’s too busy, go ahead and lay your request at His feet. Then sit back and wait and see how he will answer you!
