“Faith friends are like Jesus with skin on as you share life’s pains and feel the comfort of a fellow griever.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – March 6, 2023
The Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. 1 John 4:14
For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Matthew 1:20
Salvation in Jesus Christ the Son came forth out of the Trinity’s holy community. The love of the Father sent His Son into the world as Savior, while the Holy Spirit conceived the Son in Mary’s womb. Honor is ascribed to the Father, Son, and Spirit for bringing the gift of Jesus Christ to all who will believe in Him. God’s best gift flowed from God’s love by coming to earth with the human presence of pure holiness…living to love and dying in love. Divine love is active in providing sacred solutions for problems beyond human capacity…eternal and abundant life!
Charles Spurgeon unpacks the truth of the Trinity’s role in salvation through faith in the son of God, Jesus Christ. “We are too apt to forget that, while there are distinctions as to the persons in the Trinity, there are no distinctions of honor. We too frequently ascribe the honor of our salvation, or at least the depths of its benevolence, more to Jesus Christ than we do the Father. This is a very great mistake. What if Jesus came? Did not his Father send him? If he spake wondrously, did not his Father pour grace into his lips, that he might be an able minister of the new covenant? He who knoweth the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost as he should know them, never setteth one before another in his love; he sees them at Bethlehem, at Gethsemane, and on Calvary, all equally engaged in the work of salvation.” Love flows from Father, Son and Spirit. Similarly to the Trinity, pure love flows through us being present in holy communion.
“And the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy” (Luke 3:22).
As you contemplate the divine dance of love on your behalf, celebrate your expanded capacity to love. Praying quietly in the presence of the Father, Son, and Spirit enlivens your spirit to be loved and led by the cohort of perfect love. Intimacy with the Holy Trinity invigorates your faith, brings peace to your heart, and renews your mind with precious promises from above. Your engagement with the ever-available divine community brings clarity to your life purpose. The Father’s love emboldens you to be who you are, beloved and blessed, the Son’s friendship gives you the security and support of a loyal brother, and the Spirit’s comfort heals your heart and guides your life. Your fellowship with the Holy Trinity transforms you into your best you.
Your life becomes beautiful to behold as you move back and forth between communing with heaven to fellowship with other of Christ’s followers on earth. Faith friends are like Jesus with skin on as you share life’s pains and feel the comfort of a fellow griever…and, conversely, who celebrate with you over the blessings of babies, good health, a good meal, prayer together, fulfilling work, and a child who makes wise decisions. The Body of Christ is incomplete without your involvement, so know you are loved, especially when you hurt, as does the Body hurt with you. Just as you rest and revive in the presence of Father, Son, and Spirit…so you also come alive in worship at church, small group bible study, and community service projects. The Trinity’s love is the model that communities of Christ followers aspire to…a safe and secure place.
“And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually” (1 Corinthians 12:26-27, NKJV).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me rest and enjoy sweet communion with you, the Son and the Spirit, through Christ’s love, and in Jesus’ name, amen.
