Character Is Praised… “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30
People pronounce a person of character as trustworthy and true. They praise them for their God fearing faith. They praise them for their God fearing conduct. They praise them for their God fearing children. The common theme for praise from Christ’s followers is God fearing, for those who fear the Lord allow the Holy Spirit to change their character.
Indeed, you receive praise and immediately give it to the one all deserving of praise, Jesus Christ. Praise from others is your opportunity to point them back to the One who is the originator and sustainer of your character, Christ Jesus. Your character is your creditability when you speak of the Lord, so you can leverage your life for Christ’s sake.
Furthermore, your greatest praise comes from God, “No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise is not from men, but from God” (Romans 2:29). He praises those whose heart has been humbled by the Holy Spirit, so praise Him for His praise!
Do I praise others for their God fearing behavior? Do I allow others to praise me? Do I give back praise to my Heavenly Father as an offering of gratitude and praise?
