“No matter where you are physically located, you are a light bearer for Jesus and can carry hope into the world.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – March 24, 2024
“If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand – shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:15-16, MSG
Typically, we never see ourselves as others see us, and when we imagine how God sees us, we rarely get it right. We often only see our shortcomings and how we missed the mark. Sure, some days, we’re knocking it out of the park for Jesus – witnessing to our family and friends, blessing a friend who needs help, or maybe giving that extra offering to the church. But that’s nothing compared to how our Heavenly Father sees you.
The other day, a friend shared with me how disappointed she was that she had never had the opportunity to go on a mission trip with her church. As we continued talking, the conversation shifted to the fact that we don’t have to get on a plane and travel thousands of miles to be on God’s mission field.
No matter where you are physically located, you are a light bearer for Jesus and can carry hope into the world.
People know you by your love. You cannot hide it. The love of Christ emanates from your eyes, speech, and actions. Your entire countenance exudes the love of our Lord and Savior.
No matter what road you are traveling on, you carry the presence of God within you and shine your light for others to see.
You have a mission field right at your feet in your own hometown.
Did you know you can preach the gospel without even saying a word? Your actions are your testimony. You are not like those in the world but are set apart.
You can be the hands and feet of Jesus in your office, your child’s school, and your neighborhood by showing love and care to others God puts in your path.
You can preach the gospel in your local supermarket when you pick up milk and bread.
You can show the love of Christ through your actions, the words you speak, and the choices you make.
You are on a mission to show people there is hope to be found, and one of the best ways you can do this is by letting your light shine and keeping the greatest commandment of all – Love one another.
“A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:34-35).
Prayer
Jesus, every day I pray you place me on the path you want me to travel that day. Let me encounter those who need hope, encouragement and even a simple hug. Let your light shine through me to others so they see you in me.
Application
If you have a friend who is going through a challenging time, unexpectedly stop by just to say hello. You could bless someone with an encouraging note, flowers, or even a text to let them know you love them and are lifting them up today.
